The museum is available for private hire on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

 

Royal Air Force College Cranwell is probably the most famous landmark in RAF history. Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum portrays the fascinating story of this historic establishment from its early days as a Royal Naval Air Service base to the current day. The experience includes interactive exhibits including a Jet Provost flight simulator, Vampire T11 Cockpit, exhibitions and artefacts. There is also a courtyard area with a Jet Provost aircraft. The museum also runs a programme of fascinating exhibitions exploring the wealth of aviation’s remarkable heritage as well events suitable for all ages.

With its refreshment/reading area and impressive retail space, Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum is the ideal place to stop for an hour or two.

‘Animals at War’

This exhibition takes a brief look at some of the roles animals have played in conflict from WWI to the current day, and also tells the stories of some of the animals that have been awarded the Dickin Medal, the animal’s Victoria Cross.

‘A Tale of Two Apprentices’

Coming up in May – explore the fascinating story of Frank Whittle and his progression through the RAF leading to his most remembered project, the Jet Engine.

The exhibition offers another perspective in the story of Herbert Tomlin, an RAF apprentice and one of ‘Trenchard’s Brats’.

In 2019 we were pleased to receive the Sandford Award for our heritage education offer, which consists of an exciting programme of workshops compliant with the National Curriculum.

Free, with a nominal charge for group visits.
