Royal Air Force College Cranwell is probably the most famous landmark in RAF history. Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum portrays the fascinating story of this historic establishment from its early days as a Royal Naval Air Service base to the current day. The experience includes interactive exhibits including a Jet Provost flight simulator, Vampire T11 Cockpit, exhibitions and artefacts. There is also a courtyard area with a Jet Provost aircraft. The museum also runs a programme of fascinating exhibitions exploring the wealth of aviation’s remarkable heritage as well events suitable for all ages.

Events & Exhibitions

Current Exhibition: ‘High Flying Women’

First displayed in 2017 and revisited for 2024, this popular exhibition tells the fantastic stories of the women who fought against adversity to achieve aviation history. The exhibition will be available to view until Monday 10th February.

Opening 21st February: ‘Women in Airforce Blue’

The exhibition focuses on the story of women who served their country wearing Airforce blue, from the beginning in 1918, through overseas postings, two World Wars and numerous smaller conflicts to the present day.

The service went through many internal battles and the women’s role changed with time until finally reaching parity with their male counterparts in a joint RAF.  This exhibition gives an idea of the struggles and conditions and in some cases bravery those early females endured and how their jobs have evolved into a highly skilled and respected members of the military establishment.
