Dambusters at 80 – IBCC Concert and Supper

International Bomber Command Centre

16 May 2023 at 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Operation Chastise, or the Dambusters Raid, is perhaps the most well known Bomber Command Operation, particularly after it was immortalised in the 1955 film of the same name starring Richard Todd as the inimitable Wg Cdr Guy Gibson.

617 Sqn of No 5 Group Bomber Command undertook this dangerous mission in aircraft adapted by Avro designer, Roy Chadwick, to allow for low level flying and the dropping of the “Bouncing Bombs” designed by Barnes Wallis.   At the end of the operation 8 of the 19 aircraft were lost with the loss of 53 airmen.  Their names are all recorded on the IBCC Memorial Walls.

To mark the 80th anniversary of  the Dambusters, we will be holding an evening featuring performances by the Waddington Military Wives Choir, readings from excerpts of interviews with George “Johnny” Johnson MBE DFM and poems.  There will be an exhibition of items from our Archives and more elements to be confirmed soon.

The evening includes a free glass of prosecco or orange juice at the pre-dinner drinks reception and a delicious themed buffet supper.

The drinks reception will see the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s flypast tribute to the Dambusters.
